Wish List
Many of you have asked if there are items we need in the classroom. I have created a Wish List in Amazon.com where you can see classroom materials that we would love to have. Items do not have to be purchased from Amazon. The list provides pictures and descriptions so that you can see what we need. For instance, I have cookie sheets on the list (we will build our word study words with magnetic letters on them), but they could be purchased cheaply at a dollar store. If you have any questions about how we will use the materials, please don't hesitate to ask. The items currently on the list are for word study. Thanks!

STAR Books
STAR books --
- Please keep Social studies and Science work in those sections of the binder. We want to keep the units intact to make it easier for you when it comes time to study for the tests.
- Please check the “left at home” and “right back to school” pockets of the binders nightly. When homework is checked, we move it to the correct location in class (math to “left at home”, science and social studies to that section of the binder).
- Your Word Study notebook will be the place where you complete Word Study and Language Arts (LA) homework. If an assignment does not take up the entire page, please draw a line and continue to use the page for the next assignment. The back of a page may be also be used in this way. Please write the day and date at the top of each section of work. This way, the notebook should last the entire year. (Please do not use the handwriting paper provided for math.)
- Math homework will be completed on the handwriting paper provided or on a math sheet provided. Some families are choosing to print the math homework and that is fine, too.

Weekly Word Study Homework Outline
Weekly Word Study Homework
Monday- Cut out the words and sort them. Make sure you put the “key words” at the top so you can put the same type of words under each category. You might want to pick a few words to write a sentence with.
Tuesday- Sort the words again and write the words in categories on paper under the correct headings. Do a blind sort (ask someone to call out the words to you and you put the words under the correct category by only hearing the word not looking at it.)
Wednesday- Sort the words again. See how fast you can sort the words by having someone time you.
Thursday- Have someone call out the words for you to write them. Correct your mistakes if you have any.

Congratulations to our new homeroom representative, Zella Bailey! Our alternate, who will attend if Zella is absent, is Kai Lakin. All 12 of you did a great job with your speeches and should be proud, even if you weren't elected.

Practice your student number. This number is your unique number that you will have until you graduate! You will need it to buy lunch, check out books, and many more activities as you move through the grades. I will send home a practice sheet with your number this week. You can practice on this paper, or better yet, use a calculator! Mom and Dad, consider having your child order dessert by entering the number correctly on a calculator.
