Why we read with our kids

It is not just reading to children that makes the difference, it is enjoying the books with them and reflecting on their form and content.  It is developing and supporting the children’s curiosity about text and the meanings it conveys.  It is encouraging the children to examine the print. And it is showing the children that we value and enjoy reading and that we hope they will too.  (Adams, M. J. (1990). Beginning to Read: Thinking and Learning About Print. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press)
